How to get a free Groq key

Cesta's AI is optional. With it, the list sorts itself into categories, understands quantities and reads recipes and receipts better. It needs a key from an AI provider: Groq has a free one, and it's the one we recommend. It takes about two minutes.

1. Sign in to Groq

Open console.groq.com in your iPhone's browser (or from Cesta: Turn on the AI › Open Groq). Sign in with your Google account or your email. It's free and doesn't ask for a card.

2. Create a key

In the menu, go to API Keys and tap Create API Key. Give it a name, such as "Cesta", and create it. A key starting with gsk_ will appear.

3. Copy it

Tap Copy. It's only shown once: if you close the window without copying it, create another.

4. Paste it into Cesta

Go back to Cesta, to Turn on the AI (or Settings › AI). First it explains what is sent to the AI: if you agree, tap I agree. Then tap Paste. Cesta checks the key straight away and tells you whether it works.

Questions

Does it cost anything?: Groq's key is free, with a usage limit that is more than enough for a shopping list.
Where is it kept?: In your iPhone's Keychain. We don't see it or keep it.
What is sent?: It's explained in the privacy policy. The shop, date and total of your receipts never leave the iPhone.
Can I remove it?: Yes: in Settings › AI you can delete it, or turn off Send to the AI so nothing is sent.
